Concert Halls: concept, function, technology, construction, program, operations & purpose Many orchestras are currently in the planning phase of new hall construction, hall renovation or additions to their halls. As the scope of orchestra activities has become increasingly complex so too have the demands of the halls in which they perform, entertain, educate, rehearse and operate. Alignment of concert hall capacity, function, design and purpose with modern strategic institutional objectives will be of increasing importance in the coming years. This seminar will probe in depth the issues that led the Seattle, Chicago and Cleveland orchestras to very different solutions to their hall construction projects, and will aid participants from orchestras contemplating hall construction projects to gain greater understanding of the complexities these projects entail. The seminar will include acousticians, and will be facilitated by a highly experienced hall construction consultant. Principal speakers will include: Henry Fogel, President, Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association Deborah Card, Executive Director, Seattle Symphony Orchestra Gerard Schwartz, Music Director, Seattle Symphony Orchestra Gary Hanson, Associate Executive Director, The Cleveland Orchestra Facilitator: Steven Wolff, principal, AMS Planning & Research Host: Seattle Symphony Orchestra Dates: October 8-10, 1999 Where: Seattle, WA Designed for: Trustees, Executive Directors, Music Directors, General Managers, Operations Managers |
