University of Phoenix WEB/404 - Web Programming I

Welcome to the Course Web Site

Welcome to the class! Feel free to look around, print the syllabus, check the calendar, take a look at your homework site on Geocities, download the HTML and XHTML textbook, and get ready for Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. This class isn't all that hard, but I'm told there's a lot of work. There's more to learn than we can possibly cover in ten weeks, but we've tried to touch on all the basics, and will be talking about the most important current issues as well.

Welcome
Welcome to WEB/404, Web Programming I. During this class we will be focusing on HTML, with a short excursion into JavaScript and CSS. You will write 2 papers, complete 5 tutorial exercises, and create a web site and documentation for a Learning Team web project. You will interact with all class members through weekly Discussion Questions.

Week One
If this is a FlexNet class, this week you should get acquainted with the class Newsgroups and make sure that your copy of Outlook Express is properly set up

For all classes: begin reading your textbook, which you will find on rEsource. If you have never written HTML before, you may wish to look at HTML Basics, which also contains a link to a podcast I made recently on the topic. The podcast starts playing when it is about 10% loaded, and takes about 30 minutes to view. You can, however, jump around a bit in it.

Week Two
This week we do some research into Usability and Accessibility - basic things you need to know in order to approach web development thoughtfully. We learn to make simple web pages, how to link from one page to another, and how to upload and download pages to an Internet web site using Geocities.

Week Three
This week we create some more complex web pages using tables, and think about usability and design issues.

Week Four
This week we learn about form elements, the difference between DHTML and DOM scripting, and do some research into browser compatibility issues.
