Discussion Topics
Choose any one of these. It is okay if more than one person chooses the same one. Since these are such big questions, each person will have a different take on them!
- Since you cannot directly display XML data on the web, why would you want to put your information into XML format?
(This question allows you to find cool uses of XML on the Web, or, if you prefer, there are some excellent logical reasons which you could explain to us!)
- Both XML and databases are used to store information. What are the criteria you should use to decide when to use XML, and when to use a database?
(This question requires that you know, or find out, how databases work, and what their nifty tool kits allow you to do, as well as XML. Lots of opportunities to learn things with this one…)
- How do HTML, XML and relational databases handle semi-structured information? (This question requires that you know, or find out, what semi-structured information is. Since it's what MOST of our information is, this would be a good one to research!)
- How does putting information into XML form help or hinder information accessibility for people with disabilities?
- How will putting information into XML form help or hinder our ability to locate information in the future using search techniques?
